Recent Trends in Kitchen Appliances

The kitchen has long been seen as being the important hub of activity in the home. The kitchen has become both the centerpiece and showplace of the home. So naturally the appliances used in the kitchen have become status symbols.

In an effort to keep up with the latest in cooking trends there continues to be a strong trend toward kitchen appliances that are stylish and flexible. This is why the biggest change to take place in kitchen appliances has been the trend toward high-end appliances. We can see this in the introduction of stainless appliances. These appliances include refrigerators, dishwashers, and in the pro-style ranges with large stainless steel hoods. Pro-style ranges provide a professional look and performance for the gourmet cook Maytag Appliance Repair Los Angeles.

Another major change in kitchen design has been the trend toward appliances within an integrated look. This is where appliances can be camouflaged within cabinetry. Cabinet fronts or panels are created for refrigerator and dishwasher fronts to create a very custom look and will work well in either a small or a large kitchen. Cabinets can be created to hide other kitchen appliances as well such as trash compactors, and ice makers. The advantage of this paneling is that the kitchen need not be designed around your refrigerator or dishwasher.

The trend in the integrated look for kitchen appliances is expected to get bigger, perhaps extending to warming drawers and microwaves. Manufacturers are already building refrigerators now that can look just like cabinets. At some point homeowner will want ventilation hoods to be concealed with paneling as well.

Appliance garages provide us with another interesting trend in kitchen appliances. The appliance garage is a built in kitchen cupboard that is located on the countertop and they provide a place to store and hide small kitchen appliances such as a toaster, blender, and food processor for easy access. The appliance garage is a must for the modern, efficient kitchen.

Some kitchen appliances such as refrigerators are being designed with a futuristic more modern shape that the typical rectangular box. For instance some manufacturers are adding a rounded top and a pear shape to the bottom, or curves and sculpted edges.

When it comes to cook tops manufacturers of the high-end models have come out with high-temperature cooking features and innovations such as electric induction cook tops. These cook tops use electromagnetic energy that can provide faster heating times, and uses less energy than either gas or conventional electric cook tops.

Chef-style cooking features such as six-burner gas cook tops with front controls represent a trend toward more commercial grade kitchen appliances.

When it comes to dishwashers, sometimes two is better than one. Homeowners are starting to thing about having a second dishwasher in the kitchen. Sometimes the second dishwasher is installed in a kitchen island, along with a second sink. This trend has grown out of the use of additional dishwashers in home entertainment areas or the pool area.

Another popular kitchen appliance item is the hot water dispenser. Besides the need for hot beverages, hot water dispensers can be used for cooking pasta, instant rice and potatoes, and for warming baby bottles.

Do You Own Energy Efficient Appliances?

Energy efficient standards have drastically changed through out the years, and the change has been even more accelerated in the last few years. It’s very easy to overlook upgrading or replacing your appliances when they appear to be running fine and not causing you any issues.

Well, although they might give the appearance that everything is running great, you might be paying too much for your power bill because of them. When speaking of the appliances, this is referring to the 3 of the largest household appliances that most anyone is able to replace. This would be the washer, dryer, and refrigerator. The air conditioner is your largest and most consuming appliance, but not everyone has the ability to replace it, if say they are in an apartment. The same goes for a water heater. Both of these are very important to make sure they are up to standard, if you have the ability to replace/maintain them Whirlpool Appliance Repair Los Angeles.

Before investing in new appliances, it’s best to review what you have first. We’ll call this the discovery stage. During the discovery stage, there are a few things to verify.

First make sure the manufacture date is after 1975. Yes, it may sound like a long time ago, but there’s still many people out there with operating appliances from the 70’s. It wasn’t until 1975, that Congress passed the Energy Policy and Conservation Act, which set minimum standards for the energy efficient of many appliances. If it’s not, most likely, you’re consuming too much energy with your appliances. If it is from 1992 or later, then your appliance should have an Energy Star sticker. This is the big yellow sticker with many numbers on it. You can use this as a guide to determine the energy efficiency of your current appliances and compare it with newer appliances. If you do not have an Energy Guide sticker, it becomes a little more difficult to determine the true energy rating. One method is using resources such as the Internet to find this rating, by using the actual power output and consumption.

Other things to be aware of are the following:

Cold air escaping from around your refrigerator
Food not staying frozen or cold very well
More water consumption (gallons per month, gpm) than expected
Clothes being very wet when taken out of the washer
Extra long drying cycles
If your appliances have any of these symptoms, you may want to consider investing in newer, more energy efficient appliances. Refrigerator Maintenance: Refrigerator Mistakes To Avoid

Although we have been buying and using refrigerators for decade, some of us still make grave mistakes that reduce the lifespan of these units significantly. As a result, most of the machines break down. Therefore, we have given a few tips in this article. They will help you avoid the common refrigerator maintenance mistakes.

Don’t stuff your machine with too many things

Although you can store a lot of food items in your fridge, make sure you don’t buy too many things. In other words, you don’t want to pack your appliance to its maximum limits Refrigerator Repair Los Angeles.

Don’t turn the temperature too low

Some homeowners leave the door of their fridge open for a while. They turn the temperature too low to compensate. Although there is no harm in doing so, keep in mind that you may forget to restore the settings.

Leaving the temperature too low will require the machine to work harder, which will consume more energy. Therefore, you will have to pay more to pay your energy bills. If you want o lower the settings, make sure you do so gradually. With gradual adjustments, everything will be okay.

Don’t store hot food in the unit

According to professionals, when the temperature inside the unit goes beyond 40 degrees, the growth of bacteria starts increasing significantly. As a result, they food inside the unit becomes infected with bacteria.

Washing Machine Giving Off A Burning Smell and Producing Smoke!

If a customer called me up and described these symptoms to me about a broken washing machine, I would be racking my brains to figure out what the problem was.

If there has been a problem with frozen pipes, it is possible that the pressure switch was also frozen. This is the switch the regulates how much water the machine takes in. If it went faulty or was frozen, it is possible the machine tried to heat up water, when in fact there wasn’t any to heat Washer Repair Los Angeles.

Same problem as boiling your kettle with no water in it. Not good and usually not worth repairing.

Another possibility and one I’m more inclined to think is the problem, is that the electric motor is the issue here. It is much more likely to produce smoke and the symptoms you describe.

In all honesty, I can’t think of a simple thing that would cause what you have described and I am thinking there is a big problem with your washing machine.

Just a quick note on the safety side. Fuses are all well and good and have no doubt saved many lives over the years, but they are not to be relied on. A 13 amp fuse takes nearly 28 amps to blow it (I know it’s crazy and why do they even call them 13 amp fuses if this is the case)

My advice to you is, do a local Google search for “Washing Machine Repairs (your Town)

Many local Engineers charge very little to check a washing machine out and tell you the problem. The large companies like Hotpoint and Hoover will all charge you well over £100 to do this, so I suggest you avoid them.

Look at the reviews you find in the local Google search I mentioned, you are sure to find an Engineer who will be only too happy to call and check your machine for a fair price.

Do not attempt to run your machine unless you have had it checked 1st. It’s not worth the risk.

Many of my customers call me up and ask me straight out, if I will call and simply tell them if their machine is worth repairing or not. In recent years this has become a large part of my business and I do it every day for £19, but this is not about me.

There must be 100’s of Engineers around the country who do the same thing.

So my simple advice to you is.

Don’t turn that washing machine back on unless you have had it checked 1st.

Run a quick local Google search to find a good local Engineer.

Then decide to scrap it or repair it.
